Flash Mob for Gender Freedom Week! Come and tell us what you want, what you really, really want!

This year we are celebrating Gender Freedom for a whole week! Come and help us celebrate on April 27, 2011, at 12:00 PM by joining us for a singing & dancing flash mob. (Check out the video demonstration below!)

It will only take a few minutes, but the sense of liberation & freedom you feel will last all day!

What is a flash mob?
"A flash mob is is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual act for a brief time, then quickly disperse. The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or emails." When?
April 27, 2011 at 12:00 PM (CST). Timing is important as this is a brief event. Therefore, you may want to arrive on site a few minutes before 12:00 PM.

Where?
The TC University of Minnesota Campus, in Coffman Union Ground Floor (Marketplace seating area)

What would I need to do?
Come to the marketplace seating area, on the ground floor of Coffman Union (University of Minnesota TC Campus) a few minutes before 12:00 PM and meander or sit down unobtrusively. At 12:00 four people will start our song (Wannabe by the Spice Girls).

This is your cue! Come and join us in singing and dancing, do just one of those things if you like, or just come and be fabulous with us. We will also have some signs that you can wave around if you prefer not to join our dance routine. To get the most impact and fun in a short time, we created a choreography.

Please practice your moves if you can! If you don't have time or feel intimated by choreography come anyway! You can sing, you can wave posters, you can free style it towards the end of the song.

During the "if you want to be my lover" part, we'll have signs that say "you have to get informed consent." During the "tell me what you want, what you really really want part, we'll have signs that say things like "an end to gender violence/ racial justice/ immigrant rights/ gender liberation/ no more transphobia" etc! Bring your own great signs or ideas too! Come and have fun with us!

If you are feeling shy, don't worry: you won't have to start and you won't be alone. This is a collective action of liberation. Come and be part of an awesome crowd and don't forget to dress up if you like and/or to bring whatever makes you feel fabulous! Yes, this is the time for that tiara, glitter, feather boa, glitter, glorious mustache, glitter, beautiful wig, or sparkly cape you have been waiting to wear! However, dressing up is optional (we know you are all fabulous)!

Why should I come?
Because everyone deserves to feel free, loved and fabulous! Bring your friends and celebrate your desire for gender liberation, no matter who you are or how you identify. It will be a fun and visible way to celebrate Gender Freedom Week!

April 14, 2010 at 3:00 PM (CST). Timing is important as this is a brief event. Therefore, you may want to arrive on site a few minutes before 3:00 PM.

Where?
The middle of the Mall Area of the East Bank Campus (University of Minnesota - Twin Cities Campus)

What would I need to do?
Come to the grassy area in the middle of the Mall, in front of Walter Library (University of Minnesota Campus) a few minutes before 3:00 PM and meander unobtrusively. You will see someone getting out a boom box and starting to play our song ("I feel pretty" from West Side Story).

This is your cue! Come and join us in singing and dancing, do just one of those things if you like, or just come and be fabulous with us. To get the most impact and fun in a short time, we will be singing only parts of the song, so here is the edited version of the song we will be singing and dancing to (link).
